The Pittsburgh School District knows it takes more than good teachers to run a successful school system. Established in 1914, and rich with educational history, PPS is the second largest district in the state. Today over 5000 employees, as well as 37,000+ students occupy the 92 sites that consist of 57 elementary schools, 17 middle schools, 11 high schools, and 7 additional schools and centers.
Advanced ESI has provided a state-of-the-art, fully integrated system to the PPS district that integrates access control, cameras, CCTV, intercom systems, fire alarm interface, motion detectors, digital video recorders, alarm monitoring, cigare tte deterrent interface and the ability to view the entire facility at each school and also from one central location. When the project began the school district wanted to control access into their schools while monitoring exit activity as well. Advanced has installed in each of the 11 high schools a Central Command Center. This command center allows one member of the schools security staff to conveniently oversee all activity within the facility.
When an alarm is received, it is displayed on the graphical map and the cameras call up to view the area while sending a signal to the security staff identifying the location and type of alarm. Advanced has also provided additional security personnel with a mobile enterprise solution that allows wireless operation of this system – as if being in the command center- through laptops, PDA’s and computers within the facility. This enables quick and precise response. The principal, security and custodial staff have access to all areas within the building. Proximity readers, in conjunction with ID badges, deny or enable access to specific areas for other staff members.
Through the expertise of the designers, installers and technicians, Advanced was able to provide the Pittsburgh Public Schools with integrated, leading edge technologies and cost effective solutions to meet the unique needs of the district.
